Aim: To optimize laser micromachining and explore direct laser bonding of soda-lime and FTO-coated glass for advanced optical and electronic applications.

Brief description: This project, conducted by Azure Photon Lda in collaboration with AIMEN, focused on two key areas: laser micromachining and direct laser bonding. Soda-lime and FTO-coated glass samples were processed using a picosecond laser to achieve precise microstructures. For bonding, concentric laser machining strategies were tested on glass pairs to achieve direct bonding without adhesives. While micromachining delivered consistent results, bonding trials revealed challenges due to surface flatness and material variability, warranting further exploration.

Benefits:

  • Laser Micromachining: Optimized parameters for soda-lime and FTO glass enable precise texturing for optical and electronic uses.
  • Direct Bonding Exploration: Advances understanding of laser-based bonding methods, reducing reliance on adhesives for cleaner and more efficient assemblies.
  • Future Potential: Highlights areas for improvement, including smaller sample testing and refined focusing techniques for better outcomes.
