OPTIPOMIX

Aim: To optimize the geometry of a robotic arm for a polyurethane mixer head, reducing weight and simplifying assembly by integrating two components into one.

Brief description: The OPTIPOMIX project leverages topology optimization and additive manufacturing to redesign a polyurethane mixer robotic arm. The new design reduces material usage and weight while enhancing manufacturability and assembly efficiency. Using Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) technology, the demonstrator will be printed with lightweight aluminum alloy (AlSi10Mg), showcasing the benefits of advanced manufacturing and design strategies.

Benefits: This project highlights the potential of LPBF technology in producing optimized, lightweight components with integrated functionality. The redesigned robotic arm improves operational efficiency and simplifies assembly, demonstrating the feasibility of similar applications in automation, aerospace, and automotive sectors. The study also helps identify design and manufacturing challenges, paving the way for improved strategies in future implementations.
